DIY tip for first time tile work.

The grout instructions will say something like wait 30 min, then wipe off. This does not mean finish the entire grouting, then wait 30 minutes. It means 30 minutes after you grout a tile you start wiping. If you are alone you have to switch between grouting and wiping.

Should you wait too long to start wiping you will have problems. The solution:

Vinegar. I shit you not. Forget muriatic acid, just sponge with straight vinegar. It will look beautiful.

Hi DIYReddit, what are the tools you think everyone/every household should have?

Anything goes, power tools, drills, saws, tables. Heck i don't have very many so i figure this is the best place to ask.

Also if you have any recommendations on brands or kits which have all of your basic tools and such, that would also be much appreciated.

Edit: Funny that no one has mentioned safety goggles yet...

Also what about modding tools? Say i want to cut a hole in something and sand it down etc.

AC question

Keep getting different opinions on this. Purple wire going from the compressor into the contactor keeps burning out. Some say get new contactor. Other say compressor isn't 'firing' right and needs to be replaced. Another guy said I should replace whole unit. Your thoughts? Is it possible it could be just the contactor?

Aluminum Branch circuit wiring

I recently purchased a new electric convection oven to replace my existing gas oven. When pulling out the existing oven I was glad to see a receptacle box for 240V in the wall with wires inside it. There is no outlet and it just had a faceplate over it. I need to put the 240 (50A) outlet there and a 240V 50A circuit breaker in the breaker box. The concern is the aluminum wire that is already there. Do I need to replace this wire with copper or can I just use what is already there? Thanks.
